Before ordering a pixel extension or adapter, look at both ends of the connection. What is fitted to the controller, and what is fitted to the lights? That simple check saves a lot of frustration when setup day arrives.

xConnect and M-Connect are connector families. You still need matching voltage, pinout, pixel protocol and load capacity behind the connection. A passive adapter changes the connection between compatible parts; it does not automatically convert those other requirements.

Check the variant on your order

Use the selected pigtail option and the connector physically installed on the product. Family names alone are not enough. An older string and a new order can have different connector options.

Mattos product What to check
EVO pixels 12V WS2811. The current pigtail choices include xConnect / EasyPlug and M-Connect; match your selected variant.
EVO+ pixels Four-wire dual data. The listing identifies an included 3-wire-to-4-wire adapter for xConnect pigtails.
Kraken Flex Mconnect connection. Use the appropriate matching adapter for a compatible xConnect setup.
Dragon 4 Brainless Receiver Lite Pigtail choices include M-Connect and X-Connect. Confirm which receiver variant you ordered.

These examples reflect the product information reviewed October 29, 2026. Check the current listing and your order when identifying the item in your hand.

Four wires does not mean a white channel

Our EVO+ four-wire arrangement is for dual data. It does not create a separate white LED channel. RGBW describes lighting channels; conductor count describes wiring. Treat them as separate details when choosing software settings or an adapter.

Follow the adapter arrangement specified on the EVO+ product page. A generic four-wire lead is not automatically interchangeable just because it has the same number of contacts.

Write a useful cable request

“I need an adapter for my pixels” leaves us guessing. Before you order or contact us, write down:

  • The source: exact controller or receiver, output and fitted connector.
  • The destination: pixel product, input connector and conductor count.
  • The electrical details: rated voltage, protocol and documented pinout.
  • The route: required length, existing extensions and any injection connections.
  • The two adapter ends: the mating connection needed on each side.

Take a straight-on photo of both connector faces, plus a photo showing the housings. People sometimes use male and female to describe different parts of the connector. Clear pictures and the exact order variant are more useful than an uncertain label.

Confirm the pinout and direction

Use the wiring information for those exact components to identify positive, data and ground. A cable-side view can appear reversed from a mating-face view, so make sure you are comparing the same perspective.

Do not borrow a wire-color rule or molded-mark rule from an unrelated cable. If the documentation and the part do not agree, stop and ask before connecting it.

Addressable strings have data inputs and outputs. Follow the actual input marking or wiring diagram. Sending data into the wrong end is a basic problem covered in the WLED setup checklist.

Test the cable you intend to install

Disconnect power, inspect the mating parts and seals, and connect one short compatible string through the intended adapter and extension. Test red, green and blue separately, then movement and off. You want the complete cable path to pass before it disappears behind a prop.

Use the upstream controller's supported test method. The Dragon 4 Brainless Receiver Lite has no local test mode and does not support receiver daisy-chaining; those limits are stated in its product FAQ.

If the short connection works but the intended extension does not, record the cable length and symptoms. An adapter that fits is only one part of a working data and power path. Use our pixel power-planning guide to review the power side.

Label it while you still know where it goes

Put the same prop or destination name at both ends. Keep a known working compatible extension and adapter with the setup supplies. Record the exact combination so next year's replacement is a straightforward order.

Need help matching the parts? Send your order number, controller model and connector photos to Support@MattosDesigns.com or use our contact page. Ask before cutting or modifying a cable; we can help identify the connection first.

Identify an unfamiliar connector

Use the Mattos pigtail identification reference to distinguish exposed contact pins from socket holes, record the connector family and choose the correct output cap. Use the full connector compatibility guide when checking adapters, pixel wiring, DMX or differential connections.

Keep a straight-on photo of both mating faces with your order variant. That record is more useful for a later replacement than a general color or size description.
