It is easy to remember the big props and controllers. The parts between them are easier to overlook. A missing extension, the wrong adapter or an incomplete mounting kit can stop an otherwise ready installation. Check the small parts while you still have time to solve the gaps.

Plan each complete connection

Choose one prop and follow its planned path back to the controller. List every cable, adapter and mounting item that path requires. Then repeat for the next prop. Use the actual installation distances and product requirements rather than assuming the parts already in a storage tub will fit.

  1. Check the connector type at both ends of every planned cable path.
  2. Confirm the required extension lengths and whether adapters are suitable for the equipment.
  3. Count the specified mounting hardware and supports for each prop.
  4. Include suitable weather protection, cable supports and labels where required.
  5. Separate parts that are tested and ready from items that still need checking.
  6. Pack the small parts with the section of the display that uses them.

Check fit and function before installation

Lay out an example connection on the bench with power off. Confirm that the parts belong together before performing a controlled test using the correct equipment. A connector that physically fits is not proof of matching voltage, pinout or data requirements.

Make a short missing-parts list and resolve it before setup day. If you change the design to use different equipment, update the list instead of assuming the old accessory choices still apply.

Keeping the list with your show notes also makes next season easier. You can see what belongs with each prop and distinguish a missing part from a deliberate change in the plan.

Mattos tip: Plan the complete installation, including the little parts between the big purchases. Check them before they reach the yard.
