Two pixel cables can look almost identical and still be the wrong match. Before you connect a new prop or order an extension, check more than the shape of the plug.

Confirm the complete match

Check the connector family, number of pins, pin assignments, pixel voltage, and supported pixel protocol. The connector name describes a physical connection; it does not tell you which sequencing software you must use.

Use the wiring information for the exact product. Do not assume every three-wire cable uses the same colors, markings, or pin order. A connector that fits is not enough to prove that its electrical connections are correct.

Find the data-input end

Pixel data travels in a particular direction. The controller sends data into the string's input, then each pixel passes it onward. Look for Data In, DIN, an arrow, or the manufacturer's wiring diagram.

Identify that input before pushing pixels into a prop. Follow the prop's pixel-numbering path as well, so the physical first pixel matches the model. Connector gender alone is not a reliable rule across every product.

Check adapters before using them

  1. Identify both connector families and the pin count on each side.
  2. Confirm the adapter is wired for those exact products.
  3. Confirm the pixels and controller output use the required voltage and protocol.
  4. Disconnect power before changing connections.
  5. Test the combination on the bench before installing it.

Keep the job of the adapter clear

A normal passive connector adapter changes the physical connection. It does not convert 5V power to 12V, reduce 12V to 5V, or translate one pixel protocol into another. If any part of the match is uncertain, send us the product names and clear connector photos before powering it.

Mattos tip: Match the wiring and voltage, then follow the data arrow.
