Add Songs, FSEQ Files and Audio to EZPlayer
A reliable show starts with a library you can trust. In EZPlayer, each song record connects a rendered FSEQ lighting sequence to its title, artist, optional audio and artwork. Build and check one complete record first. Then use the same method for the rest of your season.
EZPlayer is the playback part of the wider EZRGB system. You can supply local xLights content or receive content through the EZRGB cloud. Start with local xLights setup or cloud setup if the player does not yet have its show folder and layout.
Prepare the files you actually intend to play
Keep a short intake record for every new item: display title, FSEQ filename, audio filename or “silent,” source, and the date you checked it. The Mattos planning workbook provides a place for those details. A clear filename makes it easier to spot a wrong edit, duplicate download or missing companion file later.
FSEQ contains rendered lighting data. It is different from the editable effects in an xLights sequence project. EZRGB describes its EZSequence delivery as rendered FSEQ; follow the appropriate mapping and download workflow before treating an order as ready for playback. See EZRGB’s sequence guidance and our layout mapping guide.
For music, choose the exact audio edit used for the lighting sequence. Listen for a different introduction, radio edit, extra silence or alternate ending. A filename that looks similar is a useful clue, but the rehearsal is what proves that the pair belongs together.
Choose the import route
Scroll sideways to see all columns.
| Situation | Practical route | Check before continuing |
|---|---|---|
| One musical sequence | Use Songs > Add Song, select its FSEQ, then review the detected audio and metadata. | Correct audio edit and meaningful title/artist. |
| Silent animation or test | Use Add Song and leave audio unassigned. | Silence is intentional and the item is clearly named. |
| Many musical sequences on the show computer | Use desktop Bulk Import with selected FSEQ files or a folder. | Matching companion audio exists for every item. |
| Bulk import from a browser | Register FSEQs already present in the player’s show folder. | This action does not batch-upload files from the browser computer. |
The current Songs manual distinguishes single-song import from bulk import: a single song can be silent, while bulk import requires matching audio. Use the single-song route for deliberate no-audio items instead of repeatedly retrying the batch.

Make one record dependable
- Open Add Song and select the FSEQ. Review what EZPlayer filled in. Title and artist are required; audio is optional.
- Check the detected companions. Automatic matching looks near the FSEQ, in the configured Media Folder and in the show folder. Assign missing or incorrect files manually.
- Use a small set of useful tags. For example, separate seasonal music, announcements and tests. Avoid creating several nearly identical labels for the same purpose.
- Save, then play the item deliberately. Watch the beginning, a recognizable cue in the middle and the ending. Check the actual display and audience audio path before marking the record tested.
If audio lives elsewhere, set the Media Folder to its stable location. A path entered remotely must make sense on the player computer, which is where the files are used. See the official Show Folder settings. Moving media later should trigger another file and playback check.
Review the batch instead of counting clicks
After a bulk import, read its summary. Record which entries succeeded, which failed and why. The importer continues past individual failures and skips FSEQs that already have song entries. Fix a missing audio match before retrying; a second import attempt does not repair a wrong file pairing.
For cloud content, separate “requested,” “rendering” and “ready” in your own notes. The official cloud sequence workflow explains delivery. A placeholder waiting for an FSEQ is not a playable library item. Confirm that the finished song appears and plays before adding it to the night’s plan.
Keep changes traceable
Double-click a song or use its edit action when replacing files or correcting metadata. After a replacement, recheck duration, musical alignment and any playlist that depends on the item. Lead/trail adjustments are for trimming or extending dead time; use audio sync checks for a consistent sound-versus-light offset.
Deleting a song removes its catalog and playlist references, while the underlying disk files remain. Record what you meant to remove before deleting. If an announcement or test should simply stay out of audience requests, review the nojukebox tag and viewer-control filtering instead.
Keep the working show folder, including its hidden .ezplayer data, in your backup plan. Do not edit its JSON files while the player is running; the player maintains live state and can overwrite direct file edits. See the official file reference and Mattos backup guide.
Ready for the next step: you have a playable, correctly named record, the right audio or intentional silence, and an observed result. Now build the playlist around those proven items.
Documentation review: October 29, 2026, including the official EZPlayer v0.6.12 documentation. These are Mattos planning and operating guides. The workflows have not been run on an EZPlayer installation or physical display as part of this guide review; complete the suggested checks on your own system.
